Summer Staff Spotlight: Worship Changes Things with Becky

Hey everyone my name is Becky Cole and I’m part of the Summer Intern Staff at Bethany as the Worship Arts Assistant!

I was recently on Maternity leave with my youngest son who just turned one. During the year, I work as an Educational Assistant with the DSBN, so I had nothing to go back to when my leave ended at the end of May. I needed to find a summer job, and I remembered that Bethany was hiring for the summer. I’ve been involved in worship since I was a teenager, so when I saw the position open up in the Creative Arts Department, I knew it would be a good fit! I really wanted to learn more about the behind the scenes work that the Creative Arts team did here at Bethany, so I applied and here we are!

Most of what I do here is the behind the scenes things that make the weekend services you experience happen! Whether it’s scheduling worship teams, prepping slides, connecting with volunteers or a list of other things, it’s been great to help support what’s happening in the Creative Arts community and weekend services. I have been loving my time here so far! Working with the staff and volunteers has been so incredible and everyone works so hard and are always supporting and helping each other. I’m excited to continue my work here this summer and introduce some new tunes to the worship setlists!

My work here means a lot to me and it matters to me immensely because I know how powerful worship is in our lives. I have had some really dope experiences with worship music. Recently, I had a health scare in my life and I wasn’t sure how it was going to turn out. As I was headed to an appointment, Way Maker was the song that played on the radio. The lyrics “Miracle Worker, Promise Keeper” stuck out to me and I felt an intense feeling of calmness wash over me. I heard “it’s going to be ok” in my head and I believed it. Sure enough, everything was totally fine and what could have been a heartbreaking situation, was no longer a worry. That moment was so powerful to me and I will never forget it.

God uses music to communicate with us and we can also use it to communicate with Him. That’s why I feel like this job is so important. I believe in the incredible power of worship and I’m looking forward to God using me more in this ministry.
