WHAT WE'RE ABOUT:

The Landing is about giving students a safe place to express and work through the stresses, tragedies, poor choices and struggles of life in a healthy and hopeful way, so that they can move forward in life.

WHAT WE DO:

The Landing is a safe place where students are encouraged to process what we call the hurts, habits and hang-ups of life in a healthy way. These exist because of poor choices we’ve made, hurtful choices others have made, or simply because of tragic circumstances. As part of the recovery process, we offer students the chance to be heard and to be supported so that they can learn to accept the things they cannot change, find the courage the change the things they can, and grow in the wisdom needed to know the difference.

The evening is facilitated by caring adults, and students get to listen to, and support, each other, as well as participate in an interactive lesson. The Landing is confidential, and helps participants journey towards mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health. We believe that full recovery includes Jesus’ truth, but students are welcome to engage that part of the program (like every other part) at their pace and preference (more on this below).

HOW WE DO IT:

The Landing is setup to allow for peer support as students listen to and support each other. Adults are present as leaders that facilitate the lesson and conversation, and as mentors that guide and share from their own experiences of recovery.

The Landing is a confidential group, meaning that what is shared by students stays there. We know that to be able to deal with the junk and baggage we carry on the inside, we need to know that we’re safe to show our true selves, in the hopes of becoming a better version of ourselves in the future.

The Landing is non-therapeutic, meaning that our leaders are not trained counselors, but rather trained adults that have gone through the steps of recovery themselves. We do not diagnose or prescribe treatment, we have great resources and trained professionals in our region that do this very well. But, as research continues to show us, one of the key factors in getting healthy is having a caring community that we can be a part of. That’s where The Landing fits in.

THE SPIRITUAL PART:

The Landing is recovery for every part of us. We believe that full recovery happens when we accept the truth that Jesus loves every person, has hope for every person, offers freedom, meaning and purpose for every person, and has shown us the best way to live a full life. At The Landing, we share regularly about Jesus’ message of restoration and hope, we read from the Bible and leaders will pray for the group; but we never expect or force any participant to engage on the spiritual level if they’re not at that spot. We’re thrilled to have students be part of our group who identify as atheist, agnostic, Christian or with another faith. In their own words, “this is where I can be myself.” We’re honest about our faith in Jesus and wanting others to follow him too, but it’s not a requirement to be part of The Landing.
